WORCESTER — A love for the east coast and New York City brought immigrant restaurant owner Richard Lin to the area and Worcester is benefiting from the addition of another Japanese cuisine option with the grand opening of SOHO Sushi & Hibachi at 580 Park Ave.
Lin, 39, owner of SOHO Sushi & Hibachi, moved to Worcester from Minnesota less than a year ago to live closer to his parents who live in New York. Though a native of Fuzhou, the capital and one of the largest cities in the Fujian Province of China, Lin has more than 10 years of experience making sushi and other Japanese cuisine starting as an apprentice and rising to restaurant owner.
“I like east coast and I think it has better development here,” said Lin, who immigrated to the U.S. 25 years ago. “Also, it’s too cold there in Minnesota.”
The restaurant is his third restaurant business, he said. When he was in Minnesota, he opened two Japanese restaurants as well.
Aside from being closer to his parents, Lin has always been in love with the east coast atmosphere, he said, and especially New York City — also the reason he named his restaurant “SOHO” Sushi & Hibachi, named after the SoHo neighborhood in New York City that is full of high-end chain stores and shopping malls.
Lin’s restaurant offers a variety of Japanese dishes including an all-day special hibachi, barbecue-style meat or seafood cooked on a hot cooking surface, as well as sushi and sashimi entrées.
The restaurant is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. It is closed Tuesday.
